Make Racing Lawn Mower Frames
Take a look at any racing machine from formula one, stock cars, or motocross bikes. The common denominator is that they are assembled on a very rigid structural frame. Your home lawn mower frame is much different from how you make racing lawn mower frames and is used for vary different purposes. The home lawn mower is moving at the blistering speed of 5 MPH while the racing lawn mower is travelling at 30, to 50 MPH.
Your front lawn is most likely very smooth, but a racing surface can be full of bumps and ruts, especially in the late stages of an event. Refer to the section on how to build or make racing lawn mowers in the rulebook. If allowed, you should add a front and rear push bar or bumper and side Nerf-Bars. The side Nerf-Bars will add an element of safety for racing mowers. The bars can prevent the tires of two racing lawn mowers from becoming entangled and causing a roll-over.
If the rulebook allows for modifications to length or track width of the racing mowers, you must take advantage of this feature. A wider track width will make racing lawn mower frames corner faster. The increased wheelbase will make it easier to drive. Typical rules dictate a maximum width of 40” and a maximum length of 50” for a racing lawn mower.
The USLMRA will not allow Nerf-Bars or push bars in their effort to keep the lawn mowers stock appearing. This can make racing lawn mower events more interesting for the fans as the racing mowers appear to look just like their own lawn mower.
